The Story Behind Superior Foam

Darrell Wilson, owner of Superior Foam Insulation, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974 with a degree in accounting. He is a CPA with over 19 years of widely diverse and increasingly responsible positions in accounting and finance with two multi-billion-dollar corporations. In 1995, at a point in his life where he had grown weary of corporate America, he made a life-changing visit to a NARI home show.

At the home show, he was introduced to low-density, open-celled, spray-applied foam insulation. Being an astute businessman, he immediately grasped the benefits of the product and realized the potential that it offered. After extensively researching the product's performance and safety characteristics, he left corporate America in 1995 and became the only sales representative for the first low-density, spray-applied foam contractor in Texas.

His mission was to educate as many builders as would listen about the benefits of featuring the best insulation system available in their homes. Not surprisingly, most builders in the early days had no interest in spending more money than they were accustomed to spending on a part of the home that no one would ever see. However, Darrell's persistence finally persuaded some of the most quality oriented builders in North Texas to lead the way in the use of low-density, spray-applied foam insulation.

The superior performance of those early foamed homes motivated Darrell to energetically continue to develop the local market for low-density, spray-applied foam.  In 1997, the strength of Darrell's success, and the prospect of benefiting from a robust construction market in North Texas, prompted Demilec USA, the manufacturer of Sealection 500, to set up operations in Grand Prairie, Texas.  Other foam contractors soon entered the local market.

As new foam contractors entered, they tended to compete for business on price rather than quality. It takes much less effort and much less knowledge to compete on price than quality. Inevitably, when competition is based on price rather than quality, quality tends to suffer.

Contractor shortcomings included the underuse or complete omission of foam in certain areas, or the careless or misguided placement of foam in places that interfered with the optimal performance and, in some cases, the safety of the home. These foam contractors began to do as little as they could get away with.

In June 2001, Darrell saw an opportunity to have complete control over the work quality, customer service (and pricing) by acquiring the rigs formerly operated by a local foam contractor and forming his own company. After 6 years of unrelenting dedication to excellence, he formed Superior Foam Insulation Ltd.

The name "Superior Foam" was not chosen at random. At a time when customer service and pride in workmanship in America have, in so many instances, declined to the point of absurdity, Superior Foam is all about raising expectations. We are quite simply the best insulation contractor around.
